Weekend Fun: FootGolf + Watch To Watch

Weekend Fun

We’re back for another edition of Weekend Fun, so if you don’t have plans yet, we’ll help make them for you! On top of our favorite activity of the week, we’ve included some of the hottest sports tilts of the weekend as well. That way, once you’re exhausted from all your exercise during the day, you’ll know what CoachUp’s thinks you need to watch at night — who do you think will win? Unfortunately for us up in the Northeast, we’re slowly seeing those nice, warm outdoor days slip away — so make sure you take advantage of this weekend and get active! This time, our Weekend Fun is FootGolf — yes, you read that correctly. Following in the footsteps of this country’s fascination for Disc Golf, FootGolf is an absolute blast and fun for players of any skill level. If you’re unfamiliar with the blossoming sport, it’s a modified golf course that you compete on by kicking the soccer ball downfield. FootGolf seems to have popped up around the world at nearly the same time, but the Dutch are credited with creating the first tournament in 2006. Given it’s approachability for both experts and beginners, it has exploded in popularity. In fact, FootGolf has saved many struggling golf courses in America as the activity injected new financial life into the businesses. The game is scored and played almost identically to golf — you even kick the ball off a tee! This can be a great casual activity with your friends or nice way to switch up your training. Playing FootGolf will help you with long, accurate, and powerful shots and passes, while also putting your short game to the test. FootGolfers will also have to deal with the intense pressure of performing, so make sure you take your kicks seriously, that type of focus and effort will pay off during your next big game. If you thought putting was hard, wait until you try it with a soccer ball! FootGolf is popping up all over the country now, so there’s no excuse not to give it a whirl. Check out the American FootGolf League website here and make the most of your wonderful fall weekend! See you out there!

What To Watch:

Friday, October 9th: Mets vs. Dodgers, Game 1, 9:30PM EST, TBS The MLB Playoffs are now in full swing, so there’s practically baseball from now until midnight on Friday — which is a pretty sweet deal. All four series play today, but we’ll focus on the latest matchup of the night between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers. Of course, you probably know that this is the Mets’ first playoff appearance since 2006 and will immediately run into a Clayton Kershaw-sized problem. Luckily for the Mets, they have one of the only pitching staffs that can measure up to LA’s awesome rotation. Expect this to be a masterclass in pitching on both sides, starting with Jacob deGrom vs. Kershaw tonight. Blackhawks vs. Islanders, 7:30PM EST, NHL Network, MSG + CSN-CH The reigning Stanley Cup-winning Blackhawks look to ruin the New York Islanders’ home debut in Brooklyn. The Islanders, who moved from Nassau Coliseum on Long Island this summer, will want to start their stay at the Barclays Center off on the right foot. Chicago started their season off by losing at home to the Rangers on Thursday, so they’ll try to take revenge on the newly relocated franchise. Additionally, the Islanders will attempt to build on an impressive 47-win season and beating the Blackhawks on opening night would be a great way to begin. Saturday, October 10th: USMNT vs. Mexico, 9:30PM EST, Fox Sports 1 With Jurgen Klinsmann on the hot seat, the United States National Team are officially in a must-win situation against their biggest rival, Mexico. These games are typically high-intensity and there is no love lost between the neighboring squads, so it’s almost impossible not to be hyped for this do-or-die match. If the USMNT wins, they’ll qualify for the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia — a special tournament held every four years for the best teams from each continent. If they lose, however, we may see even more outrage for Coach Klinsmann and his unconventional methods. As far as sports go, this is must-see TV. Sunday, October 11th: Bengals vs. Seahawks, 1:00PM EST, Fox Seattle has begun to regain control on their season thanks to their last-second win against the Lions last Monday night. However, because of a missed penalty — you cannot purposefully bat a ball out-of-bounds — the former NFC Champions could easily be 1-3. This week, they’ll continue their Road to Recovery against the currently undefeated Cincinnati Bengals. Andy Dalton has looked great thus far this season, but it would be an even better opportunity for the Legion of Boom to get back on track. Lakers vs. Maccabi, 9:30PM EST, NBATV And, finally, why not wrap your whole weekend up with a little bit of NBA Preseason? If you’ve been itching to watch more of the stunning rookie D’Angelo Russell, here’s your chance. If you’ve been waiting to see the return of Kobe Bryant in perhaps his last year, this is your opportunity. If you want to see how the Lakers measure up with one of Europe’s best teams, don’t skip this game! Maccabi Haifa venture to Los Angeles on Sunday night to take on the Lakers; but if you’re thinking the NBA team has this one in the bag, you might be wrong. The Brooklyn Nets opened up their preseason with 101-96 loss to Istanbul’s Fenerbahce, so why not tune in and enjoy some early October basketball!
