In order to begin a sport as complex as rugby, you must learn and know all the basic rules of rugby. Rugby is a sport where every player must always be aware of what’s happening and know where their teammates are.
The objective of the game of rugby is to carry the ball over the opponent’s goal line and force it to the ground to score. In order to beat the opposition, you must score more points.
Rules:
In order to go forward with the ball, the ball must be passed backwards. It can be kicked, but the kicker’s team must be behind the ball at the moment the ball is being kicked. Players must work as a team to move the ball forward towards the goal line.
Players:
A maximum of 15 players on each side, with up to 7 substitutes allowed.
Rugby Gear
Shirt, shorts, socks, and rugby boots!
The Ball
Oval shaped, bounces strangely, made of 4 panels of leather stitched together (modernly made with synthetic rubber).
Length of a Match:
Two 40 minute half’s, with 10 min half-time breaks
Game On!
To start the game, the ball is dropped and then kicked. The ball must stay in play and travel a minimum of 10 meters. While in play, the ball can be kicked, carried, or passed down the field by using either one arm or two.
The ball may be carried for an unlimited amount of time or distance, in any direction. The players on the other team can tackle, push, hold, or grasp the player carrying the ball but cannot tackle any other player.
When the ball is in your hands, run straight to the goal!
Scoring
·Try (worth 5 Points): When you ground the ball in the goal area of the opposition ·Penalty Try (worth 5 Points): Awarded if a player would have scored a try but couldn’t because of foul play by the opposite team. ·Conversion (worth 2 Points): The 2 additional points (after scoring a try) for when the goal kicker kicks the ball over the crossbar and between the posts ·Penalty (worth 3 Points): When an infringement is made by the opposing team, a team may choose to kick at goal ·Drop Goal (worth 3 Points): Scored when a player kicks for goal in open play by dropping the ball onto the ground and kicking it on the half-volley
At full-time (the end), the team with the most points wins the game. If the scores are equal, it is a draw and additional time is added. Play on!

First time I watched on Olympics. Fascinating. I don’t understand the rules though when they go down. It seems they have to pass the ball between a straddled leg team member to keep the ball in play.
