Former University of Southern Maine first baseman and CoachUp coach Jesse Hutchins shows how to field a softball. Always remember to center your body towards the plate, and be ready to move forward, backwards, or side to side.
Jesse Hutchins: Hi I’m Jesse Hutchins, former USM first baseman and CoachUp coach. And this is fielding position. If you field the ball off your glove-side foot, it’s much easier to get your feet into throwing position. Always be moving cause you don’t ever want to be standing still. Make sure you’re square to the plate, so you can move forward, backwards, and side to side. Once the ball is hit, position yourself so you can field it off your glove-side foot. We’re gonna go knees bent, butt back, and your glove close to the ground.
