Joe Smith had an exciting college and professional basketball career.
In 1995, Smith was named College Player of the Year at Maryland, and soon after was selected as the No. 1 pick of that season’s NBA draft, selected by the Golden State Warriors. He was also named to the 1995–96 All-Rookie team.
During his 16-year career, Smith played in more than 1,000 games and averaged 11 points per game.
Now, Smith brings his wealth of basketball experience to CoachUp.
A coach on CoachUp for nearly four years, Smith works with basketball players in the Buford, GA, area to develop the refined skills it takes to play at the next level.
Smith uses a personalized approach to his training. On his session plan approach, he says, “I really focus my training according to the needs of the player. Initially, I meet with player and assess his/her skills and formulate a plan specifically for the needs of their position.”
And, it seems to be working.
“Coach Joe was awesome! He truly understands the game of basketball. As parents, we sought true one-on-one assessment and coaching for our athlete. Coach Joe gave us all of that and more…his love of the game, success playing the game and [being] a retired NBA player gives Coach Joe a true advantage above and beyond others who are trying to coach or teach the game. He was so insightful and attentive to our daughter’s struggles. He zoned in on areas for improvement and intertwined customized drills to practice in order to take her to the next level during training sessions… He knows what it takes to win in the game of basketball.” – Tia, CoachUp client
