Boxing Tips: How To Throw A Jab

Coach Brandon Montella shows how to correctly throw a jab while keeping yourself protected.

Hi, I’m Brandon Montella, 2012 New England Heavyweight Golden Glove Champion of a Novice Class and CoachUp coach. And this is a jab. The reason why we jab is to keep our opponent’s head moving, keep them off-balance, and keep us in a position ready for strike. OK Grace, I’m gonna have you get in your fighting stance, become a linear target. Good, we’re gonna bring those hands up, keep that chin down, elbows in. When we throw that punch, we’re gonna turn it over, connect on the chin, keep the chin down, shoulder up to protect the jaw and to deflect anything coming your way.
