Small Wins Play a Big Role in Becoming a Champion

You probably never thought that making your bed every morning could impact your ability in the gym or on the field, but it most certainly can. This isn’t because it will make your mom happy or make your room look tidy. The idea stems directly from the value in small wins.

Celebrating small wins means to find success in ordinary or seemingly unimportant activities. Using them as a springboard for progress throughout your daily routine. Making your bed each morning is one easy way to start your day on the right foot. Going for a run instead of playing video games, or grabbing a banana rather than cookies for a snack are other examples of small wins you can celebrate throughout a day.

Use small wins throughout the day to achieve your biggest goals

The sense of accomplishment that comes with each of your small wins can be what motivates you to achieve your biggest dreams. It may seem dramatic, but it’s true!

Small wins are a concept I first learned about as a kid on the baseball field. My coach would always push the idea of building on small wins during practices. We would start by playing catch with a partner and he would challenge us to make 20 consecutive throws without a drop, taking one step back after each throw.

If the ball hit the ground, the two players get back together and start from zero. The idea was to set a goal and achieve it before any fly balls were hit or grounders were fielded. We started practice by earning an easy win and were thus primed to keep winning as the day continued.

Success and achievement are powerful feelings that lend themselves into all aspects of your life. The mind and body respond to success positively and create an inherent desire for more. That is why making your bed each morning or choosing the right breakfast is so important to building out a successful day.

Those small wins you earn each morning can help build momentum at school, work, and in the gym. They will encourage you to try little bit harder and achieve a little bit more.

Use each of your daily victories to build good habits and create a path to achieve your athletic goals. You may start with making your bed each morning but, before long, you will find yourself going the extra mile in practice. Not long after that, you’ll realize the impact your small wins have on your overall potential.
