Basketball Tips: The Jab Step

It is important to learn the fundamental techniques which will help you greatly on the court. Jordan Fliegel, former professional forward and CoachUp coach, demonstrates the jab step to help you improve your technique.

Hi I’m Jordan Fliegel, former pro forward and CoachUp coach. And this is the jab step. When you face up your defender, you need to use the jab to create space for your drive or your shot. There are two ways to do the jab: the jab and the double jab. It’s very important to bring the ball with your knee when you make a jab. As you are ready, take your lead foot, and land it at a 45 degree angle. It’s gonna look like this. For the double jab, you’ll take a short first step, and a longer second step. It’s gonna look like this.
