Basketball Tips: How To Do A Drop Step Middle Hook Shot Hi, I’m Mark Phillips, former Bowdoin center and CoachUp coach. And this is the drop step middle. The defender’s forcing you into the middle of the paint. You’re gonna wanna utilize the drop step hook shot. Take a big drop step into the middle of the paint. Stay low to ensure that your drop step covers more space and then take a power dribble. Go. Great work. After the dribble, make sure you bring your eyes to the rim and then shoot it over your shoulder. For a good hook shot, maintain a low base and always shoot over your shoulder. That makes it harder for your defender to block the shot. Go. Nice.
