Tell us about your basketball career.
I have enjoyed the sport of basketball since a young age. During my time in high school I was considered one of the top 100 players in the state, being named one of the best shooters. I was recruited by several schools, mostly Division II & III. I decided to play at the college level at Eastern Connecticut State University. After 2 years in the program, I stepped away from the game to focus more on my academics. I immediately started coaching at the high school level for my remaining 2 years of college. After graduating and going off to graduate school, I was away from basketball for a few years. Eventually, I started coaching a newly formed club team at University of Maryland- Baltimore County, and then for the AAU team, Potomac Valley Classics.
Why private coaching?
I enjoy providing one-on-one instruction to players who are looking to make improvements in their game. The best part is the results of training and watching players go through the transitions. I wanted to provide private coaching to those who may think it is financially unreasonable to attend big time basketball camps or private instruction elsewhere. I love working with young people, helping them grow, and using basketball as a way to teach them about life. For me, developing relationships/mentorships with players is important and I enjoy knowing that I am helping someone improve his or her skill set, mindset, and passion for the game.
What can a client expect from private lessons with you?
Clients can expect not only to learn and be challenged, but also to receive intentional instruction that will help them improve their game. We set goals and we work hard to achieve those goals. Expect professionalism and expect to sweat!
What is your coaching style or philosophy?
My coaching philosophy is that the sport of basketball can teach people lessons that can be used in all aspects of life. I find the sport important because you learn that setting goals, having a strong work ethic, and being committed are key ingredients to success in both basketball and life. Coaching to me is about leading, motivating, and inspiring players to accomplish goals that they set for themselves and even goals they may think are unreachable.
What is your favorite sports related movie?
My favorite sports related movie would probably be “He Got Game” featuring Ray Allen.
What’s your mantra or favorite saying?
In the context of life, my mantra is Lead. Motivate. Inspire. These words and actions can be applied to anything and will help lead you to success.
