Steve Kerr is NBA’s Coach of the Year
On Tuesday, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was awarded the NBA Coach of the Year in a landslide. Kerr, who won his first championship as a coach with the Warriors last season, built on a successful campaign and helped the team to an NBA record 73 wins. Alongside CoachUp’s very own Stephen Curry, the two have transformed a great team into a potential dynasty. While legendary coaches like Gregg Popovich and Rick Carlisle keep doing their thing season after season, it’s always wonderful to see new blood like Brad Stevens, Mike Budenholzer (2015’s winner), and Kerr added to the growing pool of talent.
Kerr won 5 NBA Championships as a player from 1996-1999 and then again in 2003 — that success has quickly carried on into his coaching career. Although a serious back injury kept Kerr sidelined for the first 43 games of the season, his behind-the-scenes work during practices and with interim head coach Luke Walton took the franchise to the next stratosphere.
As the Warriors gear up for another run to the NBA Finals, CoachUp wanted to celebrate his tremendous job and honor in winning Coach of the Year. If it wasn’t clear before, it should be now: great coaches make all the difference. When you’re ready to take the next step in your journey, come find your coach with us.
