Tell us about your athletic career.
I have been playing soccer pretty much my whole life. I played college soccer at the Ohio State University for 4 years. Then, I was drafted into the MLS by Sporting Kansas City. After two seasons there, I moved back to Columbus and am currently playing for the Columbus Crew.
Why did you decide to become a private coach?
When I was younger, I was lucky enough to have my dad coach me. I want to pass that on to other kids who might not have had a parent who played and excel their skills.
What do you enjoy most about coaching?
Not having the pressure of playing. It’s different to sit on the sidelines and see the game from a different view. I’m playing a part in the game on a different level
What can a client expect from private lessons with you?
My sessions are short and sweet and fun. We won’t spend all the time on one thing. There will be a theme for the day, but not just one thing over and over. We can mix up a few things and make it fun and productive.
What is your coaching style or philosophy?
My style follows that of my more recent coaches. It’s more modern and focuses on possession, pressing on defense and making the other team uncomfortable. My style is also more technical than physical
What is your favorite moment in your athletic career?
It’s either going to the College Cup my freshmen year or winning the Open Cup last year with Sporting KC. The whole road to victory, and the last game ending in PKs was great.
What other sports or activities do you enjoy playing or practicing?
Growing up with my younger brother, we played roller hockey, football, tennis, pretty much anything outside that you didn’t need a bunch of people for.
What is your favorite sports related movie?
Space Jam
What’s your mantra or favorite saying (in the context of sport and/ or life)?
Don’t worry about the things you can’t control. Control the things you can. You can always control your effort.
What team do you root for most enthusiastically? (any sport)
Obviously the Columbus Crew. Also Liverpool. Steven Gerrard is my favorite player and has been for a while.
Interesting talent or something that someone might not know about you?
I’m pretty good at solving a Rubix Cube.
