Affordable (and Effective) Fitness Equipment

There is a plethora of fitness equipment on the market for you to choose from, many of which cost an arm and leg. While there is some financial commitment to staying in shape, there are a few inexpensive items that you can purchase from almost anywhere that will be sure to help you remain fit. The next time that you are at the store, consider purchasing these fitness accessories that you can use in the comfort of your home.

Pull Up Bar

Being able to complete a set of pull ups or chin ups is a true test of your back strength. Many of the the bars on the market are affordable and easy to install. You usually just have to set the bar in the doorframe and get started.

Resistance Bands

Resistance bands are cheap and effective in providing a descent amount of resistance for basic strength training, not to mention portable so you can take it with you if you travel. You can work every body part with these bands with simple tutorials that can be found in the instruction manual or online. As a word of caution, some of the less expensive brands are not durable and may break during intense training. In the end, you get what you pay for.

Resistance Balls

Resistance balls are an excellent way to keep your core in tact. Be sure to research the correct methods in which to use the balls in order to avoid injury. When purchasing a ball, be sure to choose the correct size and weight limit to yield the best results.

Medicine Balls

There are numerous exercises that can be done with a medicine ball. You can use this extra weight to provide resistance training for your lower body, core, abdominal muscles and so forth. Once again, research the proper technique to avoid injury.

Jump Rope

I believe that this is the most underrated piece of equipment that you can buy for fitness training. It doesn’t take much time or reps to get in shape using a jump rope. Quality is important, so be sure to pick a rope with the proper length and descent material before use.

Free Weights

I recommend avoiding free weights altogether if you’re a beginner. It’s not safe to use free weights when you are not completely sure on how to use them. However, the use of free weights can be very beneficial in strength training once you know how to use them.

Be careful when purchasing these items: there are endless options that can get pricey if you’re looking to create a mini gym in your spare room or garage. I recommend working out with a partner when using free weights.

Speed Ladder

If you’re looking to increase foot speed and agility, you can’t go wrong with a speed ladder. Most ladders come with a training manual and sample exercises that you can cater your specific training regiment.

Staying in shape doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. You don’t have to get a membership at a gym that you’ll rarely visit. You don’t have to purchase hundreds or even thousands of dollars on home gym equipment. With just a couple of items and a few minutes a day, you can consistently create workouts that will help you achieve your fitness goals.
